Wet and cold weather heats up sales at John Lewis

John Lewis Christmas trading statement - five weeks to 31 December 2011

John Lewis today publishes its trading update for the five weeks to 31 December 2011. Total sales were £596m, 9.3 per cent up compared with last year. Like-for-like sales were +6.2 per cent. Compared with two years ago total sales were 19.1 per cent up whilst like-for-like sales grew by +14.4 per cent.

John Lewis rolls out virtual windows for Clearance

John Lewis is extending its use of mobile commerce by launching virtual window displays in seven shops. The move allows the retailer, which does not open its shops for Clearance until December 27, to capitalise on high street footfall on Boxing Day.

Santa’s visit delights children at the Rainbow Hospice

Local children spending Christmas at the Rainbow Hospice in Loughborough this year were today cheered by a visit from Santa which was featured on ITV1’s Daybreak. Nineteen children aged 3-18 saw Santa helicopter to the hospice’s gardens, where they were given gifts donated by John Lewis Nottingham including Duplo, Teddies and headphones.
